Do you live with a nagging pain in your low back, knee, shoulder or neck?  Perhaps our Corrective Exercise Specialist can assist you in relieving muscle imbalances that cause the discomfort.
Showing the muscles of the upper torso. The muscles are a road map for the therapist to find where to address issues. Many people experience knee, back, shoulder and neck pain as a result of human movement system impairments.  Our Corrective Exercise Specialist is able to evaluate the movement patterns of an individual and identify the muscle imbalances.  Sometimes these muscle imbalances can be corrected by a customized flexibility and corrective exercise program.  However, sometimes clients can benefit best by also receiving myofascial release (MFR).  This is where the Specialist assists the client in releasing the tension in overactive muscles.  It is not traditional massage but a means by which the Specialist releases ‘trigger points’ of pain.
Example of a neck stretch in myofascial releaseMyofascial Release is a very effective hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The envelope of MFR methods focuses heavily on how postural habits, specific activities, compensations for prior injuries or sedentary lifestyle result in chronic stress and avoidance of full range of movements.  These in turn result in shortening of muscular units and adhesions between layers of fascia. The application of controlled and focused force acts to stretch the muscular and fascial structures toward the goals of restoring the fluid quality of the fascial tissue, restoring mobility of tissue and normal joint motion.
Unsure, come in for a complimentary evaluation with our Corrective Exercise Specialist to see if you could benefit from MFR. Contact us today.
